Jean-Karl Vernay surprised after stunning Free Practice performance
Leopard Racing’s Jean-Karl Vernay dominated the single Free Practice session in Singapore. The Frenchman was one second quicker than team-mate Stefano Comini and, despite using new tyres to set his lap time, he is still surprised he was able to be so quick.
“It’s a very positive first contact with this track, which I didn’t know, and I am even surprised of my result,” said the Frenchman. “The track was very dirty, and I missed the track limits a couple of times when still exploring the circuit and learning it.”
Vernay made full use of his team-mate’s experience as he lapped behind Stefano Comini for a while in order to learn the lines more quickly: “I checked Stefano’s lines to try to learn faster, and when I put on new tyres at the end, the lap times came. The feeling is good, and I always liked a lot street circuits, now we can start working on the set-up.”
Vernay won two races so far this year.
