Stefano Comini admits trying to create chaos behind him
Stefano Comini finished second in Singapore, completing a Leopard Racing 1-2 behind team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay. The Swiss managed to get back in the lead of the championship with the result, one point behind Craft-Bamboo’s James Nash.
“Second behind my team-mate was a very good result, especially for the team,” said Comini. “I took again the leadership in the standings, and although this means little, because the gaps are very close, it was good news.”
The Volkswagen driver tried to play a strategy with the drivers behind him, hoping for B3 Racing’s Mat’o Homola to overtake championship rival Pepe Oriola: “As for the race, I wanted to create some chaos and I almost managed to do so, because I saw in my mirrors that Oriola and Homola were going everywhere.”
Comini knew his team-mate was faster, so he didn’t attempt to stay with Vernay and instead focused on bringing the points home: “It would not have been clever to try to reach Jean-Karl, so I settled for a quiet race and saved new tyres for tomorrow.”
