Hard times continue for Gianni Morbidelli after Singapore disaster

Gianni Morbidelli had a series of tough weekends this year, which continued in Singapore. The WestCoast Racing driver received a penalty from the stewards due to a track limits infringement in qualifying, which compromised both races for him and left him with just seven points scored across the two races, despite good pace shown on Saturday.

“Unfortunately from Imola onwards every race weekend seems to be a sequence of accidents and penalties that prevent me from delivering,” said a disheartened Morbidelli. “Perhaps it is more important to be lucky than good. I was very happy, the boys have done an excellent job to put it back in perfect shape.”

The turning point of the weekend was obviously the grid penalty due to track limits infringements: “The penalty that pushed me back in fourth row instead of the front row on a street track like this made it all more difficult.”

Starting in the middle of the pack also meant the Honda driver was more prone to accidents, as he made contact with Dusan Borkovic in the first race and with Pepe Oriola in the second heat, for which the Spaniard was awarded a drive through: “The two episodes in the two races added to the disappointment and it’s not easy not to feel disheartened by the situation.”
