Frustrated Jean-Karl Vernay needs to “calm down” after too many mistakes in Sepang

Jean-Karl Vernay was second in today’s free practice in Sepang. The Leopard Racing driver, who finished behind pace-setter Pepe Oriola, knows he made several mistakes and needs too improve tomorrow.

“I made too many mistakes, even if it was my first time on track,” admitted the Volkswagen driver. “The first two laps were good, but after we put new tyres on the car I made a mistake on every lap. That’s why I’m a little bit frustrated; I know what I did and I know how I can improve.”

Despite his struggles, the Frenchman admits he can’t catch Oriola: “Pepe is really, really quick and there is no way we can catch him, but I think maybe we can be two-tenths behind him and that will be my target tomorrow. Sometimes I can be a little aggressive and so I know I have to calm down.”

Vernay scored pole position and a win last time out at Singapore, and is now 28 points behind championship leader James Nash.
