Stefano Comini delighted after ‘old style’ fight with Roberto Colciago

Despite failing to win in Sepang, Malaysia, Stefano Comini is happy with the first race. The fight with TCR Italy champion Roberto Colciago left him excited, as the Leopard Racing driver has a lot of respect for the former STCC champion.

“I loved the fight with Roberto”, said the new championship leader. “He is an old-style driver in and out of the car, while I am just an old-style driver inside!”

Comini revealed he didn’t want to be on maximum attack in the early stages of the race, in a bid to let Colciago trail him to a big gap from the rest of the field: “I wanted to create a gap to the guys behind because I wanted to score as many points as possible ahead of the Macau races.”

The overtake on lap four at the last corner was not planned, but Comini took advantage of a gap: “Roberto left me a big space to pass, but I went wide at the next corner and he overtook me again as I didn’t want to risk making contact with him. I know his driving style from YouTube and I have a lot of respect for him, so I’m really delighted to have had such a good fight with him.”

Comini now leads the championship by just one points from Craft-Bamboo’s James Nash.
