Shane van Gisbergen beats Jamie Whincup to victory at Pukekohe
Shane van Gisbergen got one back on his Triple Eight Race Engineering team-mate Jamie Whincup by winning the second race at Pukekohe in style.
The two Holden drivers fought furiously on the first couple of laps, going side-by-side through several corners. Whincup made the best start of the race, but ultimately it was Van Gisbergen who got through and pulled away.
Other than that fight, there was little action in the second race of the weekend in New Zealand.
There were three Ford drivers in positions three to five, with Chaz Mostert claiming the final podium position while DJR Team Penske driver Fabian Coulthard found himself sandwiched between the two Prodrive Racing Australia drivers as Mark Winterbottom finished fifth.
Will Davison crossed the line in sixth while race one podium finished Scott McLaughlin only managed seventh for Volvo.
Van Gisbergen continues on top in the drivers’ championship, 148 points ahead of team-mate Whincup.
The fight for third is starting to heat up with Craig Lowndes, who finished 15th in the race, just 22 points ahead of McLaughlin.
Tomorrow features two further 100 kilometre races.
