Davit Kajaia on his first pole: “It’s an amazing feeling”

Davit Kajaia starts tomorrow’s first race of the 2017 TCR International Series on pole position, and thanks his local fans for their support as he hopes to convert the Romeo Ferraris-built Alfa Romeo’s first pole position into its first win.

Kajaia’s pole was dominant after the close pace seen in practice, with the Georgian over half a second faster than M1RA’s Attila Tassi in the second part of the session.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Kajaia to TouringCarTimes. “It’s my first pole position in TCR, and I’m in my home country and I’m proud to represent my country as one of its strongest drivers.

“My team did a really good job, my car was in really good shape and the balance of the car was perfect; tomorrow, of course I’ll try to keep my first place.”

The 33-year-old puts his knowledge of the track as the key factor in his pace this weekend, now driving for a new car and team after driving the Volkswagen Golf for Engstler Motorsport last season.

“I was surprised (by the gap to Tassi), but I think that I know the circuit very well and it helped me…I have a lot of experience here as I’ve participated here in different series for seven years.”
