16-year-old Giacomo Altoè comfortable ahead of Race 2 pole start

TCR International Series newcomer Giacomo Altoè will start from pole position for the reversed grid second race in Georgia, driving WestCoast Racing’s new Volkswagen Golf GTI at just 16 years of age.

Altoè has been quick throughout the weekend as the team, along with experienced team-mate Gianni Morbidelli, have worked on adapting to the new Volkswagen Golf after switching from Honda.

The team’s youth and experience line-up is similar to that of the new Honda squad M1RA, which are running 17-year-old Attila Tassi and 48-year-old Roberto Colciago.

“There will be some good fights,” said Altoè to TouringCarTimes. “We still have find something with the car, but everything is more or less good.

“I was quite close to Gianni during the weekend, and I’m happy with that as he has two years of experience in TCR.”

Though the Italian’s best grid position is in Race 2, Altoè says he won’t be saving the car in Race 1, and will be out to push from the start.

“I want to be focussed first on Race 1 and get a good result there,” he said. “And then after that, I’ll think about Race 2. I want to push as much as I can in every race I do.”
