Davit Kajaia leaves Georgia with the lead of the championship

GE-Force Alfa Romeo driver Davit Kajaia leaves his home race as the leader of the 2017 TCR International Series after a dominant performance in qualifying, and a hard-fought Race 1 victory at the Rustavi International Circuit.

The 33-year-old Georgian held off a late charge from Zele Racing’s Ferenc Ficza to win the first race of the day, his first in the TCR and his race victory since Pergusa in the 2015 ETCC.

“I am more than happy,” said Kajaia. “It is so great to win my first race here at home, I have no words…I just want to thank my country for all the support, the team
that did a fantastic job and TCR for bringing such a great show to Georgia.

“The race was very tough. My start was good and I could build some gap, but as from lap six, my front tyres started to suffer and then I had to fight to keep Ficza at bay.”

Kajaia’s leaves Georgia with the lead of the championship, six points ahead of M1RA’s Attila Tassi, with Pepe Oriola for Craft-Bamboo Racing third, seven points behind heading to the next round at the Bahrain International Circuit.
