Pepe Oriola says Comini doing Eau Rouge flat out is “bullshit”

After hearing his friend-rival Stefano Comini saying he plans to do Eau Rouge-Raidillon flat out, this triggered a reaction from Oriola, who does not believe the Audi driver will even try.

“If he (Stefano Comini) tries to go flat through Eau Rouge he will end the weekend there”, said the Craft-Bamboo driver to TouringCarTimes. “If he wants to make these jokes it’s fine, but that’s absolutely impossible to do. He had the chance to test it a couple of weeks ago, but this is bullshit, there is no way he can stay on track.”

The SEAT driver also talked about his situation, as the lack of new tyres compared to the newcomers means he doesn’t know where he is. Despite this, the Spaniard is confident he will be able to reach the top ten to continue scoring points in the races.

“The engine feels good, it’s just a general lack of grip”, said the 22-year-old. “If you try to push too much, you get understeer or oversteer. This is a very long track and it’s not like Valencia, where you can probably do 100 laps with the same rear tyres, here you really need the grip on the rear, because it’s all about fast corners. I still think we will get there, a set of new tyres will make a big difference, as Jean-Karl Vernay showed when he put new tyres on in free practice.”

The Spaniard still takes a positive out of the lack of new tyres, saying his experience on older rubber will come in handy when they will wear out towards the end of the race.

“Tyre wear during the races is not a concern really, everyone will be in the same situation. At least we have the experience as to how they are going to behave, that’s the only advantage we have. I think it will be a crazy race, I need to qualifying as high as I can to get points. It’s hard to beat the Audis, they are so strong, but we have to score points.”
