Back of the grid for Ferenc Ficza due to change of engine
The stewards have given an engine change penalty to Hungarian driver Ferenc Ficza due to a change of engine at the Salzburgring, though technically it’s a change of car, as Ficza has switched back from Zele Racing’s SEAT León TCR to Zengõ Motorsport’s this weekend.
Ficza drove the first two races of the season with Zele Racing in Georgia and Bahrain, before rejoining the Zengõ team in Belgium, before reverting back to Zele Racing at Monza as the Zengõ SEATs were in use at the clashing European Touring Car Cup meeting at the Hungaroring.
With Ficza now back with Zengõ, the officials have decided to consider this switch as a change of engine, and will apply a grid penalty for the first race.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta of Dusan Borkovic has also had an engine change after testing, but no grid penalty will be applied for the Serbian as this has been determined as force majeure as a result of accident damage.
