Craft-Bamboo Racing hoping BoP won’t hurt them in Hungary
The SEAT-equipped Craft-Bamboo Racing team are hoping for a strong weekend at the Hungaroring this weekend, with the circuit likely not to see them disadvantaged by the series’ Balance of Performance measures, after a recent spate of high-speed circuits.
Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and the Salzburgring are amongst the fastest circuits on the calendar, with the Opel Astra, Audi RS 3 and Honda Civic having shown strong pace over the last three events, but the Hong Kong/UK-based team hope to have strong results this weekend after showing much promise in practice in Austria.
“I am pleased to finally be moving to a circuit that we won’t be penalised on by the BoP,” said team principal Richard Coleman.
“We should be competitive here, and we need to be. Our target is to be back in the championship hunt over the next six races. Daniel Lloyd getting up to speed and taking points from our rivals will be key to that, James (Nash) and Pepe (Oriola) are driving better than ever before so I am confident going into this phase of the season.”
Nash, who took a pair of sixth places at the Salzburgring, consolidating his championship position, added:
“I haven’t raced at the Hungaroring since 2013 and I’m looking forward to going back. The atmosphere is sure to be electric with Hungarian hot-shots Ferenc Ficza and Norbert Michelisz both racing. Mind you, I’ll be working hard to try and send both them and the local fans home a little disappointed.”
SEAT, along with Volkswagen, have both been given a 10kg weight break ahead of the weekend. Craft-Bamboo will be outnumbered as the most represented SEAT team on the grid, with local team Zengõ Motorsport fielding four SEAT Leóns as well as a Kia Cee’d TCR.
