Scott McLaughlin wins to move up into second of the championship

Scott McLaughlin secured his fourth Supercars win of 2017, moving up to second in the drivers’ championship, just ten points behind DJR Team Penske team-mate Fabian Coulthard who finished fourth in today’s race.

McLaughlin started from pole position, but was beaten off the line by Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Jamie Whincup.

But the DJR Team Penske driver had the pace on Whincup and passed him during the second and final pit stop to win by close to three seconds.

Reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen claimed the final podium spot, passing Coulthard with ten laps left, finishing close to 24 seconds from the leading duo.

Coulthard had to defend from a four-car train of Tim Slade, Craig Lowndes, David Reynolds and Scott Pye at the end of the race. The Ford driver was able to hold the others behind him, with the four cars finishing in the order as described above.

Cameron Waters was the best placed Prodrive Racing driver in ninth position while Rick Kelly, who had pole position for yesterday’s race, was best of the Nissan Motorsport drivers, rounding off the top ten.

Supercars continues on July 9th with Townsville.
