Icarus Motorsports still ready to field second car in TCR

American TCR team Icarus Motorsports are happy with their progress at least in terms of performance in the last two races, after the team skipped Monza to install the Sadev sequential gearbox in their SEAT León TCR, and still aim to field a second car in the series if they can find a driver with the right finances.

The team’s driver Duncan Ende was more than satisfied with the performance improvement that the DSG to sequential gearbox change has brought, though the back-to-back Salzburgring and Hungaroring meetings were problematic for the team, after Ende’s car was damaged in both Free Practice 1 and Race 1 in Austria, with the knock-on effects hitting them on Sunday in Hungary.

A driveshaft failure, linked to accident damage from Ende’s hit with the Audi of Milovan Vesnic in Austria saw the American out of Race 1 early, with the problem recurring in Race 2, though the positives are that Ende was quick in practice, knocking on the outside of the top ten, but struggled to get a quick lap in Qualifying 1.

“We just need to get a full lap together, the pace is there, and the improvement since we’ve switched to the sequential box is significant,” said technical director Brian Ma to TouringCarTimes.

The team will regroup ahead of the next race at Oschersleben in three weeks, a technical circuit known to favour the SEAT, with the team ready to field a second car.

“The car’s in the trailer and ready to go,” said Ma. “All we need is a driver with the right budget.”
