Daniel Lloyd ready to fight for the win from third at Oschersleben
Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Dan Lloyd says there’s no reason they can’t fight for the win in the first race on Sunday, after his best qualifying result so far in the TCR International Series, and will be the top SEAT behind the two Volkswagens of Gianni Morbidelli and Jaap van Lagen on the grid in Race 1.
Lloyd put together a time just under three-tenths slower than Morbidelli to secure third on the grid ahead of fellow countryman Rob Huff’s Volkswagen, with Craft-Bamboo team-mates Pepe Oriola and James Nash qualifying fifth and seventh.
“It’s been a good day overall,” said Lloyd to TouringCarTimes. “We’ve also had good pace at the last two rounds, but we’ve just not been able to get it all together. It’s nice to do the job and put in a good lap. Of course, it could have been better, but everyone could say that, so it’s just nice to be P3.
Lloyd starts two spots ahead of team-mate and title challenger Pepe Oriola, but the 25-year-old says there’s no talk of team strategy, as is already in force at Team WRT with Rob Huff and Jaap van Lagen expected to help out Jean-Karl Vernay where they’re able.
“We’ve got to see how the start goes. I’ve got really good pace, so there’s no reason why I can’t be aiming for the win at the moment,” said Lloyd.
“Eighth for the second race also isn’t a bad position for the reversed race, here’s lots of opportunities to pass around here and we’re in a good position tyre wise as well.”
