Top Honda in Germany, Roberto Colciago, says he was at the limit as he qualifies eighth

M1RA’s Roberto Colciago was the only one of the four Honda Civic TCRs entered this weekend to make it into the second part of qualifying, with team-mate Attila Tassi 13th and Boutsen Ginion’s Aurélien Panis and Reno Racing’s Jens Reno Møller down in 17th and 21st– with the Italian saying his car was on the absolute limit.

Colciago, second in the championship and just six points behind team-mate Tassi, said he didn’t want to be accused of complaining about the latest Balance of Performance measures, which have made the Civic Type-R TCR the heaviest car in the series, three weeks after the M1RA team dominated the Hungaroring weekend.

“Everyone wants to be first, but sometimes you have to accept the way things are,” said Colciago to TouringCarTimes. “I think everybody can see what happened and why. I don’t want to speak about it, as after they say you’re crying. I’m just trying to do my best with what I have.

“The team have done a great job, and the car is very good to drive, but when you’re at the limit, and there’s such a big gap like this, that’s when I don’t feel good about that – but we have to race with what the rules say.”

Colciago has the opportunity to capitalise in the championship on Sunday, with rivals Tassi and Comtoyou Racing’s Stefano Comini much further down the order, but the 49-year-old says he doesn’t really see his young team-mate as competition.

“We both hopefully still have the possibility to win the championship, so whether he or I win, I’m very happy, as M1RA’s guys are incredible people,” he added.
