Dan Lloyd takes good points and a podium in Germany: “It’s nice to have a bit of luck”
Dan Lloyd had his most successful weekend of the season, in the BTCC or TCR, at the German round of the championship this weekend, finishing second in Race 1, and fourth in Race 2 in the Craft-Bamboo Racing SEAT León, with the Briton happy to have had bit more luck after having being caught up in a run of accidents this season.
Lloyd qualified third on the grid, and moved to second at the start ahead of the Team WRT Volkswagen of Jean-Karl Vernay, then followed WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli to the finish to take his first podium of the season.
In Race 2, Lloyd avaoided the carnage at the first start, and was well-placed for the restart, running in third during the early stages before he was passed by the on-fire Morbidelli, and had to settle for fourth.
“It was a really good day,” said Lloyd to TouringCarTimes. “I’m over the moon with P2, it was just a good solid weekend. Morbidelli was just untouchable, but I was nearly there in Race 1. Pace-wise he crept away a little, but we really took away from the rest of the field.”
Lloyd set a minor set-up change spoiled the handling of the León TCR for Race 2, but the Brit was still part of the four-car battle for the victory right up until the end of the race, while his two team-mates Pepe Oriola and James Nash were eliminated in the crash at the start.
“In Race 2 we changed a few little bits to the car as it was a bit warmer, but it just didn’t feel the same and I didn’t have the same kind of pace in the second race,” he said. “It was nice to have some luck and not run into the trouble at the start, but I feel sorry for the Lukoil team, as much as I had a good day, it’s not what you want to see for your two team-mates.”
