Rob Huff says “mission accomplished” with team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay back in front

Team WRT’s Rob Huff scored a podium in the first race at Oschersleben, while team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay followed up, also finishing third in Race 2, and with many of the Frenchman’s title rivals suffering difficult weekends, the Volkswagen driver found himself back in the lead of the championship.

“I think Race 1 was the most uneventful race of my life,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.

“Two weeks’ ago, I passed 11 cars in the WTCC in Portugal, and now there was nothing to do but bring the car home.

“We weren’t able to attack the guys in front, or in trouble from behind – which was OK as let me work with the car a little bit more and try to understand it.”

Huff was eliminated in Race 2 at the start, running into Giacomo Altoe’s WestCoast Volkswagen as it spun across the track, and was collected by Stian Paulsen’s SEAT, and was unable to take the restart.

“We made some really positive changes for Race 2, but just got caught in the big spill, which is a shame as I thought I’d done really well to avoid everyone, but then I just got a massive hit from behind.

“The good thing is, my team-mate JK (Vernay) is back in the lead of the championship – that’s the main goal and we achieved that, so on that side of it, we did a good job.”
