Jamie Whincup given grid penalty for pit lane incident

Jamie Whincup of Triple Eight Race Engineering has been given a grid penalty after colliding with Garry Rogers Motorsport driver James Moffat in the pit lane during qualifying for the first race of the Supercars weekend at Queensland Raceway.

Whincup will be moved five spots down on the grid for Race 15 after merging into Moffat while heading out from his pit lane position.

“I didn’t see Moff and he was obviously racing hard. It is what it is. We didn’t do a good enough job in qualy. We’ll be aggressive in the race and see what we can do,” said Whincup to supercars.com.au.

Whincup qualified ninth while Moffat only managed 28th, while DJR Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin went on to claim his tenth pole position of the season.
