Rob Huff: “The Hondas were completely untouchable this weekend”
Team WRT’s Rob Huff drove into the points after a set-up issue saw him qualify down in 16th in Thailand, but was happy to have at least deprived team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay’s rival Stefano Comini of points in Race 1 at a weekend where he says the Honda Civic TCR was unbeatable.
Two Honda Civics finished on the podium in each race, with M1RA driver Norbert Michelisz winning Race 1, and with Aurélien Panis taking his maiden win in the second race from pole position in the Boutsen Ginion Racing entry.
After the race, Huff says the results were the best possible considering the performance advantage, with Vernay just two points behind Honda driver Tassi going to the next round.
“The main thing was that in Race 1 I got up behind JK and stopped Comini from scoring some points,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.
“The Hondas were completely untouchable this weekend which was a shame, as it seems to be the story of the year so far. It’s been frustrating weekend from that perspective, but our car has been fantastic. Both JK and I found the sweet spot, and we’re quick in the corners, but we’re not quick enough on the straight to make something of it and that’s where it gets really tough.
“Every time you get close enough they just pull away in a straight line, even the guys with the same engines as us, but I overtook at least 16 people this weekend, and we’ve got no damage on the cars so the guys can have a bit of a rest when they arrive in China.”
