Cameron Waters secures Sandown 500 pole position
Prodrive Racing Australia driver Cameron Waters claimed pole position for the first Supercars Championship endurance race of 2017 at Sandown, beating DJR Team Penske driver Scott McLaguhlin by four tenths of a second over the finishing line in the second qualifying race.
David Reynolds, who had pole position for the race, crossed the line in third position for Erebus Motorsport, with Holden driver Jamie Whincup finishing fourth, both close to the leading duo.
Chaz Mostert made it three Ford Falcons in the top five, with McLaughlin’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard in sixth.
The Holden duo of Dale Wood and Garth Tander rounded off the top eight.
Triple Eight Race Engineering drivers Shane van Gisbergen and Craig Lowndes had a tough race with van Gisbergen finishing 19th from 22nd on the grid and Lowndes retiring on lap seven with a technical issue.
Brad Jones Racing has announced that the #4 Holden Commodore of Todd Hazelwood will not take part in the remainder of the weekend due to the massive crash in the first qualifying race while Tekno Autosports, who were involved in the incident with Jonathon Webb, are busy repairing their car for the main race.
