Senna Proctor pleased to have pressure off for Finals Day
Senna Proctor says he is looking forward to racing without the pressure of the Jack Sears Trophy hanging over him on BTCC Finals Day this weekend.
The Power Maxed Racing driver wrapped up the title with five races to go at Silverstone last time out following a campaign that saw him emerge as the class of the rookie field – taking more wins that the rest of his rivals combined.
That came despite doubts at the start of the season in some quarters as to whether the teenager was ready to make the step into touring cars having only finished eighth in the Clio Cup UK last year.
Having proved his doubters wrong, the son of former BTCC racer Mark Proctor will aim to end the campaign on a high this weekend and said his focus was already turning towards putting together a programme to return for a second season in the grid in 2018.
“I’m over the moon that we got the Jack Sears Trophy done with five races to go, and it means that I can go to Brands Hatch with a lot of the pressure taken off my shoulders,” he said. “I don’t need to think too much about the points this weekend and can simply go out there, enjoy myself and push for the best possible results.
“Although I’ve won the title with races to spare, I wouldn’t say it’s been easy and the focus for me now is on trying to make sure I’m on the grid again next year.
“There were a lot of people who doubted whether I was ready to make the step up to the BTCC, but I think I’ve proved a point and have already opened doors with potential sponsors because of the success I’ve had.
“Hopefully we can end the season on a high at Brands and then continue that success into the future.”
