Scott McLaughlin claims provisional Bathurst 1000 pole position

DJR Team Penske driver Scott Mclaughlin has claimed provisional pole position ahead of the legendary Bathurst 1000 in a red flag-affected qualifying session.

McLaughlin claimed pole position with 2:04.2253, three tenths of a second faster than the closest competitor in the form of Holden driver David Reynolds.

Prodrive Racing Australia occupied positions three to five with Chaz Mostert in third, Cameron Waters in fourth and Mark Winterbottom in fifth.

McLaughlin’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard underlined the dominating performance from Ford by claiming sixth position, just under seven tenths of a second from pole, making it five Fords in the top six.

Shane van Gisbergen was best of the Triple Eight Race Engineering drivers in seventh while his team-mate and title contender Jamie Whincup just missed out on the top ten shoot out of tomorrow, finishing eleventh.

The red flags were brought out toward the end of the session when Garry Rogers Motorsport driver James Moffat hit the wall at The Dipper.

The final drivers making it onto the Top Ten Shootout were Walkinshaw Racing driver James Courtney in eighth, Ford driver Jason bright in ninth and Moffat’s team-mate Garth Tander in tenth.
