Scott McLaughlin breaks Bathurst qualifying lap record to claim pole
Scott McLaughlin secured pole position for the 2017 Bathurst 1000 race in style by breaking the lap record with 2:03.8312 in today’s Top 10 Shootout.
“I knew we could do that. I’m over the moon. That was the most incredible moment of my life,” said McLaughlin.
The DJR Team Penske driver claimed pole by over four tenths of a second ahead of Erebus Motorsport driver David Reynolds.
Prodrive Racing Australia claimed positions three and four with Mark Winterbottom in third, 0.6676 seconds behind, and Chaz Mostert in fourth, 0.7563 seconds behind.
Shane van Gisbergen improved his position from the first qualifying session with two spots to claim fifth on the grid for Triple Eight Race Engineering.
Three Ford drivers claimed positions six to eight with Cameron Waters in sixth, McLaughlin’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard in seventh and Jason Bright in eighth.
Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Garth Tander finished the session in ninth while James Courtney was tenth and last for Walkinshaw Racing, 1.7 seconds from McLaughlin.
