Supercars racer Alex Rullo to test Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall

Australian teenager Alex Rullo will get his first taste of BTCC machinery next weekend when he flies into the UK to conduct a test with the Power Maxed Racing team.

Rullo made headlines this season when he secured a place on the Australian Supercars Championship grid at the age of just 16 with Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport; taking a best finish of 15th at Bathurst before splitting with the team with two rounds remaining.

Evaluating his potential options for 2018, Rullo will get get behind the wheel of PMR’s Vauxhall Astra for a day of running at Brands Hatch as he considers the possibility of becoming the first Australian driver on the grid since Hyla Breese back in 2002.

“It’s a long way to travel for one day, so naturally I wanted to test with a developing top team,” he said.

“I have thought long and hard about my options for 2018, the BTCC is an incredible series and could be the way to go for us in 2018, so when we contacted Adam Weaver and then he subsequently offered me the opportunity naturally I jumped at it.”

Having previously given the likes of Josh Cook and Senna Proctor their opportunity to join the grid, team boss Weaver said he was excited at the prospect of giving Rullo his first run in BTCC machinery.

“I am really looking forward to meeting with Alex and his family at the test, along with his manager and to of course see how he gets on in his first outing in a BTCC car,” he said. “As people will know we are gaining a good reputation for bringing young talent to the championship, securing the Jack Sears trophy twice in three years. Maybe we can do it again in 2018.”

PMR has already tested both Martin Plowman and Sam Tordoff since the conclusion of the 2017 season.
