Jamie Whincup extends Triple Eight deal

Reigning champion Jamie Whincup has agreed a new deal to remain with the Red Bull Holden Racing team to the end of the 2019 Supercars season.

Whincup had been going into the final year of his existing deal with the Triple Eight-run team but has agreed terms on a new agreement that will extend his already long partnership with the team to some 14 years.

During his time with the team, Whincup has secured all seven of his championship titles alongside more than 100 race wins, including four at Bathurst.

News of the new deal – which was agreed back in November after Whincup beat Scott McLaughlin to the 2017 title – came at the same time as Triple Eight unveiled the new Commodore ZB that it will use on track this season.

In total, 14 of the new ZBs will be used by Holden teams during the year ahead.

“I’ve been with Triple Eight for a long time now and we’ve achieved a lot together, but at the same time still feel we have so much more to prove,” Whincup said.

“I’m rapt to be staying within the family for at least the next couple of seasons and massively looking forward to the challenges that the new Commodore and then the V6 engine next year will present.”
