Dan Cammish pleased to open podium account

Rookie Dan Cammish said he was pleased to score his first podium in the BTCC after maintaining his solid start to life in the series at Donington Park.

Having show strong pace in his Team Dynamics-run Honda Civic at Brands Hatch, the former Porsche Carrera Cup title winner was quick from the outset at Donington, topping the times in the opening practice session and carrying his speed through to qualifying where he snared fourth on the grid.

Eager to challenge at the sharp end of the field, Cammish produced a strong drive in the opening race of the weekend to take second behind Josh Cook, allowing him to take to the podium for the first time.

An impressive fourth place with success ballast and the less favourable hard tyre followed in race two although there was disappointment at the end of race day when contact with Chris Smiley saw him forced to retire with a broken wheel rim from the final race of the weekend.

“It’s been a good weekend overall,” he told TouringCarTimes. “We had good pace in qualifying and have been near the front all through race day.

“To get P2 in the opening race was great and p4 on hard tyre in race two was maybe even better considering we were also carrying success ballast. Race three was just an unfortunate incident where the cars just touched in the wrong place. I don’t blame Chris for it and I don’t think I was at fault either having watched it again; it was just a racing incident.

“I’m pleased to have got a podium under my belt and I think there are positives we can take from this weekend, most notably how well the car handled on the hard tyre. I’m looking forward to Thruxton and hope we can have another strong weekend there.”
