Daniel Haglöf frustrated with mid-weekend weight changes

PWR Racing driver and CEO Daniel Haglöf has said he’s found the weight adjustments throughout the weekend problematic, and doesn’t think it was the right call by the TCR officials to change the weight before qualifying.

The Cupra TCRs started the day with news that they were going to get a -10kg weight break after the latest technical bulletin from the WSC and FIA, which adjusted all of the cars on the STCC grid’s ride height down by 10mm and also allowed the Cupras to take off 10kg.

The Cupras then dominated both practice sessions, as they already had a national minimum weight adjustment in place which now meant they were 30kg lighter than the rest of the field.

After the second test session, the TCR body imposed an adjustment to the national weights, adding 20kg to all five Cupras on the grid just half an hour before qualifying.

“It’s not ideal to throw a set-up on and race the car, but we dealt with it as professionals,” said Haglöf to TouringCarTimes.

“I thought the call of the ballast was wrong in our favour, and I’d told them this from the beginning, but I don’t think it’s right to correct the mistake with another mistake by telling us to put more weight in the car mid-weekend. After that, I’m very proud that the team pushed through and gave us good enough cars to be up front.”
