Tom Ingram promises maximum attack at Brands Hatch

Tom Ingram has promised to take a “maximum attack” approach to the BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch after maintaining his hopes of securing the title at Silverstone.

Ingram was able to outscore points leader Colin Turkington over the course of the penultimate meeting of the campaign, taking 15th with ballast in race one before a stunning drive through the field in the second race of the weekend saw him romp to victory.

A second place finish in race three, despite huge pressure from Turkington in the closing stages, means the Speedworks man goes to Finals Day sitting 34 points behind with a maximum of 67 still to play for.

“I don’t think the chance was there to take more from Colin today, so I think we’ve done well,” he said. “We had to take the hard tyre with the weight in race one to get it out of the way, and 15th was an important result as we had to get at least a point from it.

“To then get a win was great in race two and the risk was just too high to attack Aiden in race three. Without the Safety Car we’d have had a gap behind and and I’d have gone for it, but I couldn’t risk losing the place to those behind; particularly when Colin got up into second place. To be honest, I was a bit surprised to see Colin playing hard and tapping the rear of my car considering he is vulnerable in terms of strikes, and he can’t afford to do that at Brands Hatch.

“All he has to do on Finals Day is try half a move on someone that doesn’t come off and he could find himself at the back of the grid so he needs to be careful and the pressure is on him as the title is his to lose with the lead he has. I’ll be going there on maximum attack because no-one has won from 34 points behind – yet. It would be fantastic if I could be the person who does…”
