McLaughlin promises revenge on van Gisbergen after parc fermé incident

Things heated up between title rivals Shane van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin in parc fermé after the first Supercars championship race of the weekend at Pukekohe when the Holden driver parked his car so close that McLaughlin was unable to exit his car.

Van Gisbergen apologised for the incident during the post-race press conference, only for McLaughlin to promise revenge.

“I’m sure he’ll get me back for it,” said van Gisbergen.

“If I win tomorrow and you come second I will,” said McLaughlin.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver maintained that the incident was a mistake rather than an act of intimidation.

“I didn’t even realise I did it until after, it was pretty awkward. I apologised for that, I was just excited to jump out, get on the roof and start cheering. That was a bit of an awkward one, sorry about that,” said van Gisbergen to supercars.com.

The two were involved in a tough fight in the first race and are separated by just two points in the championship, although with the result still provisional due to a protest from DJR Team Penske.
