Result still provisional as Shane van Gisbergen’s stop is under investigation

The result of the penultimate Supercars championship race at Newcastle is still provisional as race-winner Shane van Gisbergen’s final stop is under investigation.

The investigation was started as Triple Eight Race Engineering was reported to have lowered van Gisbergen’s car before the refueling was completed.

Van Gisbergen won the race in spectacular fashion, beating title rival Scott McLaughlin on the very last lap as the DJR Team Penske driver ran out of fuel, to claim the championship lead by two points.

Triple Eight Race Engineering team manager Mark Dutton is however not worried about the investigation.

“No, no. The guys work very hard, the spike and fuel man, to be as in unison as possible. Because they reacted at the same time, you could almost not script it better. We went through and watched all of the stops and they were spot-on,” said Dutton to supercars.com.
