Thomas Randle in line for Supercars wild card

Super2 driver Thomas Randle is in the box seat for a debut Supercars Championship main game start as his Tickford Racing squad aims to run a wild card at The Bend Motorsport Park on August 23-25th.

Tickford team principal Tim Edwards spoke to pit lane reporter Riana Crean during Sunday’s Super2 race at Queensland Raceway and said the team was looking to field a wild card entry for Randle at the South Australian event before he steps up as a co-driver to Lee Holdsworth for the Enduro Cup rounds.

A former Australian Formula Ford champion, Randle joined the Tickford fold at the start of 2018 off the back of winning the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand over the summer break, taking a podium round result in Barbagallo half way through the development series season.

Despite having a debut win revoked at this year’s Townsville 400 support race due to a restart infringement, Randle bounced back for two poles and a win this weekend at Queensland Raceway, giving Ford their first Super2 win since 2017.

Randle was on track for a round win this weekend as he led the final race before severe foot cramps forced him to slow down, relinquishing the lead and the round victory to Bryce Fullwood in the Matthew White Motorsport Nissan.

Though yet to be officially confirmed, Edwards’ admission that the team is looking into a wild card for Randle shows that it is likely the young star will get a debut main game in the next round of the Supercars championship.
