Adam Morgan happy with upturn in fortune

Adam Morgan said he was pleased with an upturn in fortune after qualifying on the second row of the grid for the latest rounds of the BTCC season at Thruxton.

The Ciceley Motorsport man had endured a trying campaign at the wheel of his Mercedes A Class, despite starting the year with a podium finish at Brands Hatch, and goes into the weekend sitting down in 17th place in the standings.

Saturday at the Hampshire circuit would see a noticeable improvement in form for the Ciceley squad however, with Morgan in the top five in both free practice sessions before he secured fourth on the grid with a lap just a tenth of a second away from pole.

“It’s been our most challenging year this year,” he said. “We’ve shown glimpses of pace but then there has been bad luck or component failures that have made it tough. To come home P4 in qualifying is a big morale boost for the whole team and we are chuffed with it. However, Sunday is the main day and we have to try and get some good points from it.

“We’ve made some changes to the car for this weekend, and also have some new engineers with us – which has played a part in how things have gone. We did a race run in the second practice session and the car felt good so I’m confident going into tomorrow.

“Touring cars is tough and everyone always wants the same piece of tarmac, and I’ve been on the wrong end of that a lot this season. As long as I can get away well, then hopefully I’ll be out of the way of all that and we can hope for some improved results.”
