Dan Cammish puts focus on outscoring leader Turkington

Dan Cammish says he is prepared to lose points to Andrew Jordan in the race for the British Touring Car Championship title at Knockhill, with his focus on trying to close the gap to leader Colin Turkington.

Jordan and Cammish as the two drivers looking to chase down defending champion Turkington in the standings with nine races remaining, with the pair both out-qualifying the Team BMW man in a rapid session at the Scottish circuit that saw Rory Butcher smash Cammish’s lap record.

The Team Dynamics driver ended up second to Butcher on the timesheets, although his best time was some quarter of a second away from pole.

“There was no beating Rory – that was a mega lap,” he said. “I don’t know how he has done it and to be so dominant shows he did a great job. There is a similar gap from me to tenth as there is from him to me, but he didn’t do it from nowhere, he was top every session.

“I’m over the moon as P2 with 42kg is great. The team has done a mega job and we’re ahead of the BMWs so we can have a great day tomorrow and pick up points and fight for the podium. It’s not likely I’ll beat Jordan into turn one and that is fair enough – he has rear wheel drive and will be quick off the line. I also think he’ll be aggressive because he can gain points on Colin and the same applies for me.

“I might lose some points to Andrew but Colin is the man we are both trying to catch. We need to close the gap if we can as this place suits rear-wheel drive more whereas Silverstone is probably 50/50 and then Brands Hatch is more suited to us.

“If we can gain some strong points here, then we have a good chance.”
