Ash Sutton vows to push hard for Brands Hatch victory

Ash Sutton has vowed to push hard for victory on race day after securing a place on the front row of the grid for the BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch.

The Team BMR driver qualified on pole at the Kent circuit at the start of the season and was able to produce a strong lap in wet conditions to take second on the timesheets behind points leader Colin Turkington.

The former champion goes into the final race day of the season without a win to his name so far this year, having taken twelve victories across the past two years at the wheel of the Subaru Levorg.

With that in mind, the 25-year-old said he was up for a fight on race day as he attempts to end the campaign on a high.

“I think there was more in the car at the start of the session, but I had a few moments and didn’t quite maximise things,” he said, “but I’m delighted with where I ended up. We’re in a good position for tomorrow and I’m going for race wins; I’m excited.

“If the guys around me that are going for the title want to race me, then let’s have a race; that’s all I’ll say. If you look at the last few years, I’ve had six wins with this car and it’s hard to come here for the final round and to not have taken any.

“Some of that has been out of our control for various reasons and there are wins and podiums that we have missed out on as a result. However, there are three more races to come tomorrow and I’ll be having a good stab.”
