DJR Team Penske finish one-two in Bathurst morning warm-up

Preparations for the 2019 Bathurst 1000 have been completed after the final twenty minute warm-up session wrapped up this morning, giving the Supercars teams their last chance to prepare for the 161-lap race.

It was a good hit-out for DJR Team Penske with the Ford team taking a one-two result on the timesheets at the conclusion of the session, Fabian Coulthard leading Scott McLaughlin to the top spot.

Starting from 16th for the race after struggling in qualifying, Coulthard dialled in the car’s dry setup in the warm-up, posting the only sub-2:05 time in the twenty minute outing with a 2:04.9307.

McLaughlin’s fastest lap came in the last lap as the chequered flag signified the end of the session, going to second only two-tenths down on his team-mate. The defending series champion will be starting from pole for today’s race, setting a new lap record in yesterday’s Top Ten Shootout.

Rick Kelly was able to sneak the Kelly Racing Nissan Altima up to third in the dying moments, pipping the Triple Eight cars of Shane van Gisbergen and Jamie Whincup to the spot.

Front row starter Chaz Mostert finished the session in eighth place, seven-tenths of a second down on Coulthard’s time but running consistent laps in the Tickford Racing Ford Mustang.

2017 race winner and 2018 pole sitter David Reynolds was unable to get into the top ten in the warm-up, ending up in 12th and having to prepare for a long afternoon in the Erebus Motorsport car, starting 22nd with co-driver Luke Youlden.

The Bathurst 1000 will begin at 1130 local time and will run to 161 laps with no time certainty rule in place for the marquee event.
