Supercars announces Super2 scholarship fund

Supercars has announced a new $500,000 scholarship prize pool that will be in place in Super2 from next season in order to aid young drivers looking to make the move up to the main championship.

The winner of the 2020 Super2 title will be awarded $400,000 to be used towards a drive in Supercars the following season, whilst the winner of a newly-established Rookie Class for drivers under 25 will be given $100,000 to use towards a second Super2 campaign.

News of the scholarship came at the same time as a six round calendar was confirmed, with Super2 racing at Adelaide, Tasmania, Townsville, Sydney, Bathurst and Sandown. A planned seventh round in Newcastle has been dropped.

“This prize money will serve as a considerable enabler for drivers looking to build on their success in Super2 to graduate to a full-time career in Supercars,” Supercars Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard said.

“These young drivers will compete in DS2 races at some of our biggest events, giving them and their sponsors exposure to millions of fans.

“The commitment of a significant prize for winning Super2 will only serve to intensify and improve the competition for participants and fans alike.”
