BTCC opens tender for new engine supplier

TOCA, the organiser of the British Touring Car Championship, has opened a tender process to determine who will supply the series’ spec engine when the current deal comes to an end.

Swindon Engines has held the contract since the introduction of the NGTC regulations, and successfully secured an extended five-year deal when the last tender process was held in 2015 – with that deal running through to the end of the 2021 season.

The new tender process, which will run until 2020 January, will be to determine who takes over the supply of the TOCA engine from 2022 through to the end of 2026 in a new five-year term.

That means the new engine will need to accommodate the hybrid system that is due to be introduced into the series at the same time.

The new contract will be awarded in June to provide an 18 month period in which a new cost-effective engine can be prepared and tested ready for the start of the 2022 season.
