Back-to-back race weekends for Supercars in Townsville

Following on from the trend of 2020 to host multiple rounds of racing at the same venue, Supercars has announced it will back up its round of racing at Townsville the weekend after in a first ever double-header for the Far North Queensland circuit.

Having hosted the Townsville 400 since 2009, the Reid Park Circuit will play host to the Supercars paddock over two consecutive weekends, copying the format of last month’s Sydney Motorsport Park rounds as well as the upcoming Darwin races at Hidden Valley Raceway.

With fans being allowed to attend through pre-purchasing tickets, Supercars CEO Sean Seamer thanked the Queensland Government as well as Townsville for playing host to the category across consecutive rounds, bringing back some level of flow and normality to the championship.

“We’d like to thank the Queensland Government and Townsville City Council for supporting this concept which allows Supercars to race at one of our favourite circuits on back-to-back weekends,” Seamer said.

“Two weeks of racing in Townsville allows us to maximise exposure and competition during the key northern leg of this year’s championship.”

“Supercars would like to thank drivers, officials, team personnel and their families for their continued support of this year’s championship during these times.”

The race meeting is also likely to have support categories in attendance though the traditional concerts will not be held this year.
