Stephen Jelley targets Brands Hatch podium

Stephen Jelley says he is hopeful of pushing for a podium finish when the BTCC heads for Brands Hatch this weekend for the second round of the season.

The Team Parker Racing driver enjoyed a solid start to the season last weekend at Donington Park, securing a brace of top ten finishes in the opening two races before an unfortunate spin in race three that left him outside the points.

Having been on the pace in his BMW 125i M Sport, Jelley now heads for Brands Hatch in confident mood having scored points in all three races of the 2019 season finale – with his goal being to try and push for a podium finish.

“Donington Park has never been our strongest circuit so to come away with two points scoring finishes and a good showing in the last one, I’m pretty happy with my performance,” he said. “It’s a good foundation for circuits that better suit us.

“Brands GP is a great circuit. The Indy circuit tends to suit us better than the fast corners on the Grand Prix loop, but we led the race there last year so there’s potential to score another hatful of points. It’s not like a Croft or a Knockhill, which are really strong for our car, it’s a sort of medium where we’ll be looking for potentially a podium on a good day.

“We’ll get to work, I’ll do some time in the sim and we’ll go again.”
