Nick Percat/Thomas Randle excluded from Shootout results, will start 10th
The #8 Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore of Nick Percat and Thomas Randle will have to start tomorrow’s Bathurst 1000 from tenth on the grid after the car was excluded from the Top Ten Shootout after a technical infringement.
Post-session the BJR car was sent to the weight scales and was found to be underweight by 2kg three times, giving officials no other choice than to remove the shootout lap that Percat set and putting them last of the shootout runners after getting up to fourth in the session.
Supercars officials released the following statement related to the exclusion of Percat’s car, a penalty handed down by the stewards from the Supercars Head of Motorsport, Adrian Burgess.
“After the conclusion of its run in the Top Ten Shootout for Race 31, Car #8, Percat/Randle, was weighed on the Supercars scales and, with the Driver wearing his apparel on board, was recorded by the HoM as weighing 1393kgs – 2 kgs under the minimum weight prescribed by Rule C4.1 of 1395kgs (including the Driver wearing their complete Driver’s apparel as detailed in Rule D23.2).
“Rule C2.1.1 provides that a Car must comply with the Design, relevant VSD, ESD and the Rules.
“The Team, Brad Jones Racing Pty Ltd, did not take issue with the weight of Car #8 recorded by the HoM and acknowledged that therefore the Car did not comply with the Rules during the Top Ten Shootout.
“The Stewards imposed a Penalty of the Disqualification of Car #8 from the Top Ten Shootout.”
Percat is a former winner of the Bathurst 1000, having won in 2011 as a rookie with Garth Tander while Thomas Randle only has one start to his name though has been quick around the Mount Panorama Circuit, winning the Super2 race before the shootout this afternoon.
