Sandown replaces Australian GP on 2021 schedule

Sandown will officially return to the Supercars schedule for 2021 following the decision to postpone the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.

The opening round of the F1 season was due to host the second event on the Supercars schedule, but has now been put back to November as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result of that decision, Sandown will now step in to host round two, having been placed on standby when the 2021 calendar was originally announced.

“We are delighted to confirm we will return to Sandown in 2021,” Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said. “Few circuits demonstrate our history better than Sandown.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to the Victorian Racing Club for their support and flexibility.

“With regards to the Grand Prix, we will assess the opportunity closer to the time. Right now our focus is on the pre-season and first few rounds of the upcoming 2021 Supercars season.”
