Shane van Gisbergen injured in mountainbike accident

Current Supercars Championship points leader Shane van Gisbergen has been injured in an mountainbike accident and has gone through a collarbone surgery today.

The 31-year-old was supposed to take part in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia series at Phillip Island next weekend but is forced to sit out the race in order to recover for the Supercars race at Sandown on March 20-21.

Triple Eight Race Engineering issued a statement today:

“The operation went well and he’s on track for a smooth recovery. While he would be medically fine to channel a MotoGP rider and jump back into competition next week at Phillip Island, he’ll be taking it easy until the Sandown SuperSprint in two weeks’ time. J-Dub will take his seat in the no. 888 AMG GT3 Evo next week. Please join us in wishing SVG a speedy recovery.”
