Winton round postponed for a second time

The Supercars Championship round at Winton Motor Raceway has been postponed for a second time due to the COVID pandemic. The round was planned for July 31-August 1 and will instead be moved to “a later date in the year”.

The Supercars organisation issued the following statement today:

“Due to current and evolving COVID restrictions it has been determined that a different date will be more suitable for the event to optimise the experience for teams, campers, spectators and officials.

All other events scheduled on the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship calendar will not be affected by the new date of the Winton SuperSprint.”

It has been rumoured that the coming Townsville venue could host a back-to-back round instead, with the originally planned race weekend held on July 10-11 and then a second round the following weekend – this in order for teams to avoid a lengthy quarantine when returning to their home bases.
