TCR New Zealand announces three-round 2022 calendar

The TCR New Zealand organisation has announced a three-round calendar for 2022 following its inaugural one-event round earlier this year.

“We’re pleased to be able to build on the success we had with the inaugural TCR New Zealand Championship,” said Elton Goonan, MotorSport New Zealand CEO.

“The racing at Highlands was exceptional and the feedback from the competitors confirmed the promise the category has. There’s talk of a few new TCR cars heading our way too which will be a great addition to the field.”

The first two rounds will be held in the South Island in January and the third round in the North Island in February/March, with exact dates and details to be announced later.

Super Production cars will be included on the grid in 2022, just as this year.

“Early interest is high. We are confident that the series will attract the top touring car drivers from around the country. We are also currently working with a couple of major corporate sponsors which will also enhance the series,” said Lindsay Dodd, category manager.

The inaugural TCR New Zealand title was claimed by Chris van der Drift of Track Tec Racing.
