Paul Rivett to make BTCC return with two round Motorbase deal

Record-breaking Renault Clio Cup champion Paul Rivett will make a return to the BTCC grid for the next two rounds of the season after being drafted in by Motorbase to replace Andy Neate.

Neate will miss the events at Knockhill this weekend and then Thruxton at the end of the month as he continues to deal with the after-effects of COVID-19.

Neate tested positive in the break between Brands Hatch and Oulton Park, and was forced to withdraw from the latter after Saturday’s track action after feeling unwell – resulting in a further spell in hospital.

Unable to race this weekend, Neate will now look to recover ahead of a planned return to action at Croft next month.

“Sadly COVID has truly taken a hold of me this past month, and having spent some time in intensive care post Oulton Park, there is simply no way I can be fit in time for Knockhill or Thruxton,” he said.

“All being well, and if things work out okay for me, I’ll be back for the final four rounds of the season. Until then I’ll be wishing Motorbase luck in my absence.”

Neate’s absence will see a return to the grid for four-time Clio champion Rivett, who competed in the final two rounds of the 2020 season in a Trade Price Cars Racing Audi S3.

“I can’t wait to get into such a fantastic car with such a fantastic team,” he said. “After my first experience in a BTCC car last year I have been waiting to get back out in a Touring car ever since.

“While it is a great opportunity for me. I really hope that Andy is back to full fitness soon. I would just like to say a massive thank you to Motorbase and Wayne Eason for making this possible. Dreams can come true.”
