Tom Ingram pleased with Saturday efforts at Thruxton
Tom Ingram was left buoyed by his performance in the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton today after claiming runner-up laurels in the series’ Qualifying Race.
Returning to action following the annual summer-break, the reigning champion topped the times in Group 2 of qualifying, in-turn setting him up to secure a front row start for the ‘Race To Pole’.
The EXCELR8 driver initially launched an early attack on eventual winner Josh Cook before ultimately settling for second place, which is where he will start the first of Sunday’s three races.
“I’m very pleased with that result,” said Ingram. “We ended up setting the fourth fastest time in qualifying but with the way these new regulations work, it meant that we started second on the grid as we were the fastest in our respective group.
“Round a place like Thruxton it can be difficult to overtake because you get caught up in the dirty air; so starting on the front row was the perfect scenario.
“I made a little bit of a challenge to Josh but I knew he’d have the pace on us, especially given the TOCA Turbo Boost disparity between us. I kept an eye on the Ford’s behind me but ultimately I just focused on what I could control and that was finishing ahead of Ash.
“We’ve got a good car under us so I’m confident we can have a strong day tomorrow.”
