Tom Ingram dominates reverse grid finale at Thruxton

Tom Ingram closed out the British Touring Car Championship’s annual visit to Thruxton by claiming victory ahead of Ash Sutton and Dan Cammish in the reverse grid finale.

Starting on the front row of the grid alongside pole sitter James Dorlin, the reigning champion made the better start as the lights went out and drew alongside his Hyundai counterpart as the field streamed through Allard.

Completing the move by the time they approached Complex, the EXCELR8 driver then pulled clear to triumph by more than xx seconds.

Like race two, the winner is set to stand in front of the officials, with Ingram’s start being investigated after he was adjudged to have ever-so slightly reversed when pulling up to his grid box.

Ingram did have to contend with an early safety car period following a number of incidents around the circuit that included the likes of Aron Taylor-Smith, Adam Morgan, Ryan Bensley and Lewis Selby.

On the restart, two-time champion Ingram streaked clear while championship leader Sutton quickly dispatched Dorlin. His Alliance Racing team-mate Dan Cammish was quick to follow him; and that would be as they stayed until the finish.

One of the biggest movers in the race was Ricky Collard, who fought his way from 11th on the grid to finish a comfortable fourth. Behind him, Senna Proctor capped off a strong race day with yet another top five finish after starting in 15th.

Following his fight inside the top three, Independent front-runner Dorlin managed to hang on to finish sixth ahead of the scrapping quartet of Gordon Shedden, Tom Chilton, Dexter Patterson and Mikey Doble.
