Josh Cook on pole for Thruxton Qualifying Race

Josh Cook will start this afternoon’s British Touring Car Championship Qualifying Race from pole position after topping the times in qualifying at Thruxton.

Topping the times in Group 1, the Speedworks Motorsport driver’s benchmark time of 1.15.219s was enough to secure him first on the grid for upcoming 12-lap encounter around the Hampshire circuit.

Reigning champion Tom Ingram led the way in Group 2 but ended up being less than a tenth of a second shy of the Irishman’s time. That means that the Hyundai driver will line up alongside the most successful BTCC driver round Thruxton on the front row of the grid in second.

As per the series’ new format for this season, the group with the pole-setting lap time will occupy the odd-numbered grid positions for the Qualifying Race, while the other group occupy the even-numbered grid positions. Both are ordered by their qualifying times.

Third on the grid is Alliance Racing’s Dan Cammish, while Senna Proctor – who is filling in for the unwell Sam Osborne – and Adam Morgan will line up fourth and fifth respectively.

Completing the top ten is Mikey Doble, Ash Sutton, Ricky Collard, Dan Rowbottom and James Dorlin.

The BTCC’s Qualifying Race from Thruxton is scheduled to commence at 15:05 and can be viewed via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKrF08q8mq4.
