Anton De Pasquale, Shane van Gisbergen share Sunday poles
Anton De Pasquale and Shane van Gisbergen secured pole for Sunday’s Supercar races in Sydney.
The expected wet weather arrived in time for the two short sessions but couldn’t prevent the front-running duo from maintaining the strong form shown at the circuit over the last week.
De Pasquale bounced back from the issue that consigned him to last on the grid for Saturday’s opening race by topping the times for Sunday’s first race – giving him an eighth pole of 2022.
In tricky conditons, De Pasquale was the only driver to lap under 1:42s as he grabbed pole by half a second from van Gisbergen, with Chaz Mostert and Bryce Fullwood sharing row two.
Cam Waters had been between the Walkinshaw Andretti United pair before going off at turn one, with the session briefly stopped despite him being able to extract himself from the gravel.
He would lose his best time as a result and instead starts back in 17th spot.
Will Davison shares row three with James Courtney, with Scott Pye, Andre Heimgartner, Jamie Whincup and Will Brown rounding out the top ten.
Van Gisbergen then grabbed pole for race three ahead of Mostert, with De Pasquale this time left to settle for the third best time in the DJR Mustang.
Nick Percat grabbed fourth from Heimgartner, with Davison, Whincup, Waters, Fullwood and Tim Slade rounding out the top ten.
Brown was the driver who this time went off at turn one and could only manage 18th.
Luke Youlden, in for David Reynolds this weekend, impressed in both sessions to qualify inside the top twelve.
